So I have a full manuscript now, and an agent. But the hard work has only begun.
I just got my agent’s detailed set of notes on my novel a few days ago – comments in large red letters on nearly every page of the 220+ page Word document. I knew from the beginning before starting out to find an agent that I would have to go through many more edits of the story before it was ready for publication.
But when I saw all of the suggested comments I nearly wanted to throw my hands up in the air and say, “Forget it!”
I thought, “When will I ever have time to go through all of this?”
I let the comments sit for a few days – more out of necessity than choice (I really didn’t have any time!)
Yesterday, finally, I took the time to read through all of the comments. And then I could breathe a sigh of relief. After taking it all in, I realized the comments were not bad, and nearly all of them made me think, “Ok, yeah, these changes will help me make the story stronger.”
This is what I want to do – write. I will find time – I will make time – to finish this and make it as great as it can be.
On a sort of unrelated note - I got a check in the mail yesterday for a magazine article I wrote. It wasn't for very much, but it's always a little satisfying to get paid for my writing.
