I haven’t quite been meeting my goal of 10 pages per day, but I am still, a month and a half later, plugging along.
I'm on page 381, just over 1/3 of the way through the book. Only about 642 pages to go!
Admittedly, I am a slow reader, but not usually this slow! In a freshman English class, I had a teacher who suggested that we time ourselves when we read, to see about how many pages per hour we read so we know how much time to set aside for reading assignments. I average about 35 pages per hour for a normal novel-type book.
Certainly not keeping up that momentum for Infinite Jest, but I would argue that it is not a “normal” book.
These characters are the driving force for me. I'm also still interested in this concept of a tennis academy/high school.
But at just over 1/3 of the way through the book, I'm still not sure what it’s about. There are two main threads of the story – the ones revolving around the tennis academy and the halfway house – and they are loosely linked, but not strongly enough linked to understand why they’re both within the same novel.
So I guess I'm also still reading to see how these threads link up.
My goal: finish reading Infinite Jest before fall classes start.
Ideally I’d love to be done by the end of July, but I don’t know if that will happen…
