Teaching Motivation

I want to know what motivates my students to do well in school, specifically what motivates them to write well.

I want to know how to incorporate this idea into my classroom, how to spark conversation on this topic and help students think about and discover what motivates them to do well.

Here are a few resources I've discovered that I'm planning to use in the first week of my English composition classes in the spring:

"Helping Students Motivate Themselves" from New York Times' The Learning Network blog, 2012

Ted Talk: The Puzzle of Motivation by Daniel Pink (video below).

Any other good resources/ideas/tips for motivating adult college-level students?
