Swimming a 5K Is Significantly More Difficult than Running One

On Saturday, I competed in a 5K cross-country running race around a vineyard in Biglerville, PA. My mom and my guy were crazy enough to race it, too.

There were more hills than I expected, but overall a fun race with almost 2,000 participants. And the best part? A free glass of Jack's Hard Cider for everyone at the finish line!

Yes, we're wearing matching outfits. Yes, I did drink two ciders.

On Sunday, I competed in a 5K open-water swimming race around a lake in Hazelton, PA. This was significantly more difficult than running a 5K, but at least there were no hills! Swimmers from my master’s swim team, the Dumpster Fish, joined me. They swam it – and won it – as a three-person relay. I knocked almost four minutes off my time from last year. And no shoulder pain!

6th place overall, but 1st place female. Finished in an hour and 16 minutes.

A beautiful weekend competing outdoors with friends and family. I wish every day could be like this.
